Eczacort (Hydrocortisone Butyrate 0.1%) 30 mg Online
Indications of Eczacort (Hydrocortisone Butyrate 0.1%) 30 mg Online
Eczacort (Hydrocortisone Butyrate 0.1%) 30 mg is a topical corticosteroid indicated for the relief of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses in adults. It is also indicated for the topical treatment of mild to moderate atopic dermatitis in pediatric patients aged 3 months to 18 years.
Pharmacology of Eczacort (Hydrocortisone Butyrate 0.1%) 30 mg Online
Topical corticosteroids possess anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. They are believed to work by inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, known as lipocortins, which control the biosynthesis of potent inflammation mediators like prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting the release of their common precursor, arachidonic acid, from membrane phospholipids through phospholipase A2 inhibition.
Dosage & Administration of Eczacort (Hydrocortisone Butyrate 0.1%) 30 mg Online
- Adults: For corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses, apply a thin film to the affected skin areas two or three times daily, depending on the severity, and rub in gently.
- Pediatric Patients (3 months to 18 years): For atopic dermatitis, apply a thin film to the affected skin areas twice daily and rub in gently. Avoid application in the diaper area unless directed by a physician.
Discontinue therapy once control is achieved. If no improvement is seen within 2 weeks, reassess the diagnosis. Before prescribing for more than 2 weeks, consider the benefits against the risks of HPA axis suppression and local adverse events. The safety and efficacy of hydrocortisone butyrate have not been established for use beyond 4 weeks. Avoid use in the diaper area as diapers or plastic pants may act as occlusive dressings.
- Pediatric Use: Safety and efficacy in patients below 3 months of age have not been established.
- Geriatric Use: Safety and efficacy in patients over 65 years of age have not been established.
Interaction
There are no known drug interactions with Eczacort (Hydrocortisone Butyrate 0.1%) 30 mg.
Contraindications
Hydrocortisone Butyrate is contraindicated in patients with a history of sensitivity reactions to any of its active ingredients.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include stinging, burning, itching, irritation, dryness, or redness at the application site, which should subside as the body adjusts to the medication.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy: There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Hydrocortisone Butyrate should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Some corticosteroids have been shown to be teratogenic in laboratory animals after systemic or dermal application.
- Lactation: It is not known if topical corticosteroids result in sufficient systemic absorption to be present in breast milk. Systemically administered corticosteroids are secreted into breast milk but are unlikely to harm the infant. Caution is advised when administering topical corticosteroids to nursing women.
Precautions & Warnings
Systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids can lead to reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression, Cushing’s syndrome, hyperglycemia, and glucosuria in some patients. Factors increasing systemic absorption include the potency of the corticosteroid, large surface area application, prolonged use, and occlusive dressings. Children may absorb larger amounts of topical corticosteroids and be more susceptible to systemic toxicity. Discontinue use if irritation develops and seek appropriate therapy. In case of dermatological infections, use appropriate antifungal or antibacterial agents; discontinue corticosteroid if no favorable response occurs promptly.
Storage Conditions
Store below 25°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
